Senior Football Championship

Portarlington prepare to take on Arles Killeen in the SFC at O'Moore Park

Our senior team came up short against a physically strong Ballylinan side in the second of the semi-final double header in O’Moore Park Sunday, going down on a score of 3-8 to 4-10. Played in blustery conditions Port took time to settle while Ballylinan made hay in the opening quarter with the Kildare border side 9 points up 2-4 to 0-1 after 13 minutes.

The second quarter belonged to Port when our forwards sprang into action to scored 3-5 between the 13 minute and half time with goals from Colm and David (2) Murphy to leave the core 3-5 to 2-5 at halftime.

The second half started at a fast pace with both teams throwing caution to the wind in search of a victory unfortunately luck went Ballylinans way with two quick fire goals in the 38th minute. From there on, although not for lack of effort Port found it difficult to make the necessary break through against a resolute Ballylinan defence.
