We had the pleasure of a visit from the big man himself last Sunday for our annual kids Christmas party. A big thanks to all involved in the organisation of the afternoon, with special thanks to our elves who assisted Santa, our DJ Damian Carroll, Con Murphy for his photographs (see the gallery below), and last but not least all the coaches, juvenile committee and parents who helped out with the preparation for the day its self….. baking, building and decorating, helping out in the kitchen, preparing teas, coffees. Special mention to our Snowman Mick Murphy and Rudolph himself Damien Ryan.
Port GAA would like to extend an invitation to our members both young and old to visit Santa this Sunday afternoon from 3.45pm.
As it is the festive season we would encourage all to dress in Christmas jumpers, tops, hats etc. We will have a Professional photographer in the grotto taking family photos,…..brothers sisters mams dads and grandparents all welcome. To avoid queuing make sure you register on the way in to get your sequence number. While you wait DJ Damo will be spinning the discs so bring your dancing shoes. Free admission and light refreshments will be provided.
Laois GAA are running a number of coaching courses in advance of the coming season, please see details below.
LAOIS GAA COACH EDUCATION PROGRAMME 2019
Aim & Objectives
Laois GAA aim to deliver a number of Foundation and Award One Coaching Courses. The courses aim to improve overall coaching standards within clubs as well as ensure coaches over underage teams have the appropriate qualifications. Coaches who are interested in the Award Two course must apply directly to the Laois Coaching Department. We will also be running a number of informal events aimed at athlete development / fundamental workshops / games based coaching. This will be part of the Laois Coaching And Games Turas Programme.
Duration & Course Elements
- The foundation award which is aimed at beginner coaches last between seven and ten hours. The course involves practical as well as theory sessions. The course will be run by one lead tutor.
- The Award One course last between sixteen & twenty hours. The course will be both classroom & field based. The course will be delivered by a variety of tutors.
What if my club is not listed?
Clubs who wish to run their own Foundation Award must contact thier support GDA staff member.There must be a minimum of twelve coaches to do so. If your club is not hosting you may attend a course in a nearby club.

Other workshops that may interest your club:
Foundation Award Locally –
Each Club is to have a minimum of 3 participants to a maximum of 10. If your club has more the coaching office will be able to facilitate a club course. The foundation course will take place over two days and participants must also take part in a code of best practice workshop.
GAA 15 workshop/Resistance Training (RT) –
This workshop gives a coach at youth & adult level practical RT exercises and the knowledge how to use these exercises to warm up players. The workshop will also cover activities at child level for appropriate warm
Games Based Coaching –
This workshop will work with child/youth players and showcasing how games can be introduced to develop specific skills of the game. Coaches will leave with new ideas and new techniques on how to coach a skill through a games based model.
This workshop’s purpose is to show activities to work on ABC’s & the RJT’s of Gaelic Games. The aim is to show coaches at child level appropriate activates and the ideal structure of a nursery / child coaching session.
The GDA is on hand to assist the club in all areas of games development. If your club has a proposal for a workshop or an idea your GDA will be on hand for advice and support.

Things to remember regarding Courses:
- Please confirm the dates and times in advance with the coaching co-ordinator in advance, as times and dates may vary.
- Any coach who wishes to complete a Foundation Course must have completed a Code Of Behaviour before the commencement of the Foundation Course in order to be a certified Foundation Coach.
As the seasons festivities draws nearer we would like to invite our u11, u9, u7 and u5 hurlers and footballers, with their families, to our annual Christmas party to be held on Sunday afternoon the 16th of December…….. we will have very special guest to meet and greet the boys and girls during the afternoon.
